The Nabataean Kingdom existed for centuries, and Petra became widely admired for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels. Ultimately, however, the Roman Emperor Trajan annexed the Kingdom.

As we reach the end of the Siq, we'll be greeted by the magnificent sight of El Khazneh, also known as the Treasury. We'll have the chance to venture further and explore the higher caves and the High Place of Sacrifice, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the entire site. On the ground level, we'll pass by the houses, tombs of wealthy citizens, and the amphitheater. If you're up for it, there's an option to climb around 800 steps to reach El Deir, also called the Monastery, which boasts an impressive facade topped by a large urn.
