It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab civilization who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India, and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece, and Rome. The Nabataean Kingdom existed for centuries, and Petra became widely admired for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels. Ultimately, however, the Roman Emperor Trajan annexed the Kingdom. After Lunch, we drive to Wadi Rum, the Jordan's largest and most magnificent desert landscape, a timeless place that remains mostly untouched by humans. Here, monumental rock formations rise from the desert floor, reaching heights of up to 1,750 meters, offering a natural challenge for adventurous mountaineers. Local Bedouin Dinner (Zarb) & Overnight Tonight, we'll immerse ourselves in the warm hospitality of the Bedouin people. We'll savor a traditional meal, enjoy sweet tea, and experience desert camping in tents made of goat-hair. As we unwind and reflect on our week of thrilling adventures, we'll gather around a cozy fire, gazing up at the starry night sky above.
