Its rugged and spectacular mountains border the Dead Sea coast and are dissected by several river-filled canyons that offer the best river and adventure hikes in Jordan.

Mujib’s complex river system and all-year water flow enable it to support a rich biodiversity. To date, over 557 species of plants, 18 species of mammals, and numerous species of resident and migratory birds have been recorded. Some of the mountain and valley areas are difficult to reach and offer safe havens for rare species of cats, and mountain goats (Nubian Ibex).

Start the water trail - Siq Trail - The trail starts at the Visitor Center near the Mujib Bridge, where you will take the cantilevered walkway over the dam and follow the course of the river between towering sandstone cliffs to the base of a large waterfall. Depending on seasonal rainfall levels, the gorge may contain pools deep enough for swimming. This is an ideal walk to take slowly and enjoy the cool water and shade, especially in the heat of the summer.

Proceed driving to Fynan, witness the Sunset as you will be invited to join the lodge’s guides on a 20-minute stroll to the top of a gentle outcrop to watch a sunset like no other. Against the dramatic backdrop of rugged, multi-colored mountains, the sun descends, spreading vivid ambers, violets and reds across the canvas of the evening sky. Take this rare opportunity to witness the end of the day in the Bedouin camps below; with children wandering home from play, women tending the evening fires and men rounding up their herds in a peaceful dance as the sun falls to the haunting sounds of the call to prayer. Feel the gentle breeze ushering in nightfall as stars dot the sky and guides brew fresh mint tea over the warm fire. The whole activity takes 2 hours, including 40-45 minutes of walking.

Overnight in Fynan Eco lodge, enjoy the rare opportunity to disconnect as you reconnect with nature and reacquaint yourself with the simplicity of life. Savor the joy of waking up to the chirping of birds, the sun rising over the mountains and feast on a nourishing Arabic breakfast as the shepherds guide goats in search of theirs. Find a good reading spot at one of the serene terraces and marvel at the surroundings, or indulge in one of the many activities offered in the reserve.
